About the shop
A working monument shop on 181 Street
Our owner Vlad is a third-generation monument builder. He learned to cut stone and carve lettering by hand in his family’s workshop in Bulgaria, and he has been doing this for more than thirty-five years. Headstones Edmonton has been making memorials in west Edmonton since 2018. The granite is cut here, the lettering is stencilled and sandblasted here, and the crew that sets the stone at the cemetery works out of the same building. Nothing is ordered in finished from somewhere else and resold with our name on it.
That matters more than it sounds. When a family notices something on the proof at the last minute, we walk to the back and change it. When a stone needs to be seen at full size before anyone commits, it is twenty feet away in the yard. And when a date needs adding in twenty years, the original artwork file is still on our system and the new lettering will match.
We are not owned by a funeral home or a cemetery, and we pay and accept no referral fees from either. If a cemetery can supply your marker more cheaply than we can, we will tell you so.

We deliver and install memorials across Edmonton and the surrounding counties — St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Leduc, Fort Saskatchewan, Beaumont, Devon, Morinville and the rural cemeteries in between.
That includes Mount Pleasant, Beechmount, Northern Lights, Holy Cross, Westlawn, Edmonton Cemetery, South Haven, St. Michael's, Glenwood, St. Albert Municipal and the parish and county grounds throughout the region. Each one has its own rules about what it will accept, and we confirm yours in writing before a quote goes out.

Ordering a memorial is unfamiliar territory for almost everybody who does it, usually at the worst possible time. We keep the process to four steps and we do not move to the next one until you are ready.
Talk it through
Come to the shop or call. We need the cemetery, the plot, the names and the dates. Bring whatever you have written down, however rough.
See a proof
A scaled drawing of the finished memorial. Free, redrawn as often as you need, and nothing is cut until you approve it.
We handle the cemetery
Permit paperwork, size approval and foundation scheduling. You should not have to learn how any of that works.
Fabrication and installation
Six to sixteen weeks depending on the memorial. We install it ourselves and send you a photograph of it in place.

What makes a memorial worth the money
Granite lasts centuries. Whether the memorial still looks right in eighty years comes down to four things, and all four are decisions made before anyone cuts anything.
Solid granite, never a substitute
Quarried granite only. Not veneer over concrete, not resin, not painted marble. Granite does not absorb water, so Edmonton's freeze-thaw cycle has nothing to work on, and the polish holds.
Sandblasted, not surface-etched
Lettering is cut into the stone by hand-stencilled sandblast. Surface etching is faster and cheaper and it fades. Ours is still sharp when the next generation reads it.
Designed for the names still to come
We plan panel space for future inscriptions and keep your artwork on file permanently, so a date added decades from now matches the lettering cut today.
Installed properly the first time
A memorial that tips or sinks looks neglected within two years. We install on a compacted, level base and we come back and re-level it if the ground settles.

How much does a headstone cost in Edmonton?
A flat granite grave marker starts at $699, a pillow marker at $2,200 and an upright monument at $2,400. Those prices include the granite, the engraving and two designs, and any amount of lettering on the front is included as long as it fits — in any language, at no extra cost. On-site engraving on an existing memorial starts at $280 and restoration at $300. Installation and cemetery fees are not included and are quoted separately.
How much does a headstone cost in Alberta?
Alberta prices track Edmonton prices closely, because most of the province's monument work is fabricated in Edmonton or Calgary. Our own prices start at $699 for a flat marker, $2,200 for a pillow marker and $2,400 for an upright monument, with engraving and two designs included. Rural cemeteries often charge less in permit fees than the city does. Installation is quoted separately, and the further out the cemetery, the more that costs.
What is the difference between a gravestone and a headstone?
In practice, nothing. Headstone, gravestone, tombstone, marker and monument all describe a memorial that identifies a grave, and people in Edmonton use them interchangeably. If there is a distinction worth making, it is between a flat marker set level with the lawn and an upright monument that stands above it — and that difference is set by your cemetery's rules, not by what the memorial is called.
How much does it cost to have a headstone placed on a grave?
Installation is quoted separately from the memorial, because what it costs depends on the cemetery, the section, the access and the size of the stone. On top of that the cemetery charges its own fees: nearly every Edmonton-area cemetery requires a memorial permit, and an upright needs a poured concrete foundation the cemetery usually installs itself. We set all of it out line by line on the quote so you can see what is ours and what is the cemetery's.
How long does it take to get a headstone in Edmonton?
Six to ten weeks for a flat marker and ten to sixteen weeks for an upright, measured from the day you approve the proof. Winter extends that: Edmonton ground is frozen from around late October into April, so a memorial finished in the cold months is stored in our shop at no charge and set in spring.
Do I need permission from the cemetery before ordering a headstone?
Yes, and it matters more than most families expect. Every cemetery sets its own limits on size, thickness, material and finish, and several Edmonton sections are lawn-level only, which rules out uprights entirely. We submit the permit paperwork and get the approval before fabrication starts, because a memorial the cemetery refuses is not a fixable mistake.
