Granite Headstones in Edmonton
Flat, slant, upright and companion headstones cut from solid granite and lettered in our own shop.
Granite Headstones
A granite headstone is the one thing that stays
A granite headstone outlasts everyone who chooses it. That is the point of it, and it is also why the decision feels heavy. Families come to our shop on 181 Street unsure what size is allowed, what a reasonable price looks like, or whether the wording they have written down is going to fit on the stone. Those are the three questions we answer first, before anything gets ordered.
We work in solid granite only. Not granite veneer over concrete, not resin, not painted marble. Granite handles Edmonton winters the way nothing else does: it does not absorb water, so nothing inside it freezes and splits, and the polish does not dull after a few seasons of freeze and thaw. Every headstone we make is cut, sandblasted and finished here in Edmonton, which is also why we can show you the actual stone before it goes to the cemetery.

What you get
What is included
Solid granite, no substitutes
Every memorial is quarried granite, polished on the faces you choose. We stock more than twenty colours, from jet black through Bahama blue to the warm browns and greys most Edmonton cemeteries are full of.
Lettering in any language, included
Any amount of lettering on the front of the memorial is included in the price, as long as it fits — and lettering in any language costs no extra. It is stencilled and sandblasted by hand rather than etched onto the surface, so the inscription is still crisp in fifty years.
A design proof before we cut
You see a scaled drawing of the finished stone — layout, font, artwork, spelling, dates — and nothing is cut until you sign it off. Proofs are free and we will redraw as many times as it takes.
Cemetery approval handled
Every cemetery has its own rules about size, thickness, base width and finish. We submit the permit paperwork and get the approval, because a stone the cemetery rejects is a very expensive mistake.
Pricing
What granite headstones cost in Edmonton
Real bands from work we have done in the Edmonton region this year. Your written quote will land inside one of them once we know the size, the granite and the cemetery.
| Memorial | Detail | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Flat marker | Engraving and two designs included | from $699 |
| Pillow marker | Engraving and two designs included | from $2,200 |
| Upright monument | Engraving and two designs included | from $2,400 |
| Family name on a polished back | Uprights and pillow markers | $150 |
Prices include the granite, the engraving and two designs. Any amount of lettering on the front of the memorial is included as long as it fits, in any language, at no additional cost. Installation and cemetery fees are not included and are quoted separately — cemetery permit and foundation charges are set and billed by the cemetery, not by us.
Why us
Why families choose us for a granite headstone
We make it, we do not order it in
The stone is cut and lettered on 181 Street. When something needs changing, we walk to the back and change it. Companies that order finished memorials from a distributor cannot do that, and it is the reason their lead times run longer.
Straight pricing
Our list price covers the stone, the engraving and two designs, with any amount of front lettering in any language included. Installation and the cemetery's own fees are itemised separately, so you can always see what is ours and what is theirs.
Thirty-five years of stone, eight in Edmonton
Vlad has been building monuments since the 1980s, first in his family's workshop in Bulgaria and now here. Since opening on 181 Street we have set memorials in Mount Pleasant, Beechmount, Northern Lights, Holy Cross, Westlawn and every other cemetery in the region, so we know which allow uprights, which are lawn-level only, and which need a specific base width.
No pressure on the timeline
Some families order six weeks after the funeral, some six years. Both are normal. We will hold a design on file indefinitely and nobody will chase you about it.

The process
How a granite headstone gets made
Talk it through
Come to the shop or call. We need the cemetery, the plot, the names and the dates. Bring anything you have written down, even if it is on the back of an envelope.
Choose the stone
You see the actual granite colours in the yard, not a printed swatch. Colour changes the price, so we tell you what each one costs before you settle on it.
Approve the proof
We draw the memorial to scale and send it to you. Check the spelling twice, then a third time. Nothing is cut until you say yes.
Fabrication and setting
Eight to twelve weeks for most memorials, longer for hand-carved work. Our crew pours or checks the foundation and sets the stone, then sends you a photo of it in place.
Questions
About granite headstones
How long does a granite headstone take in Edmonton?
Eight to twelve weeks from approved proof to a set stone is typical. Winter slows setting down: Edmonton ground is frozen from roughly late October to April, so a stone finished in January is usually stored in our shop and set in spring. We do not charge for that storage.
What granite colour lasts best in Alberta?
All solid granite handles the climate. Darker granites — jet black, Bahama blue, steel grey — hold their polish longest and keep lettering readable because of the contrast. Light greys and reds are just as durable but show lichen sooner in treed cemeteries.
