If you have been told your section is "lawn-level" or "flush only", a flat grave marker is what you need. Large parts of Edmonton's municipal cemeteries and most of the newer memorial gardens around the city are laid out this way, so the mowers can run straight over the section. It is not a lesser memorial. It is the same granite, the same lettering and the same lifespan as an upright, set flush with the turf.
The two things that matter are the size and the thickness, and both are set by the cemetery rather than by you or by us. Get either wrong and the marker is refused at the gate. Tell us the cemetery and the section and we will confirm the allowed dimensions before we quote you anything.

What is included
Granite flat markers
Cut from solid granite, polished on the top face, rock-pitched or sawn on the sides. Standard Edmonton sizes are 24" × 12", 28" × 16" and 36" × 18", in 3" or 4" thickness depending on the cemetery.
Bronze on granite
A cast bronze plate mounted on a granite base. Bronze is the requirement in several memorial gardens around Edmonton, and it develops a dark patina over time that most families come to prefer.
Veteran markers
We make markers to the dimensions the Last Post Fund and Veterans Affairs Canada require, and we will letter regimental details, service numbers and insignia correctly. Bring the paperwork and we will read it with you.
Installed on a level bed
A flat marker that sinks on one corner looks neglected within two years. We install on a compacted sand and gravel bed, level and flush with the surrounding turf. Installation is quoted separately from the marker, and we come back and re-level it if the ground settles.

Prices include the granite, the engraving and two designs. Any amount of lettering on the front of the memorial is included as long as it fits, in any language, at no additional cost. Installation and cemetery fees are not included and are quoted separately — cemetery permit and foundation charges are set and billed by the cemetery, not by us.

How a flat marker gets made
Confirm the cemetery rules
You tell us the cemetery and section, we confirm the maximum size and required thickness. This takes a day at most.
Choose granite or bronze
Granite for most Edmonton cemeteries. Bronze where the memorial garden requires it. We will tell you which applies to you rather than making you guess.
Approve the proof
A scaled drawing with the exact layout of names, dates and any artwork. Check the spelling of every name and the digits of every date.
Setting
Six to ten weeks. Our crew prepares the bed and sets the marker flush with the turf, then photographs it for you.

About flat grave markers
What size flat grave marker does my cemetery allow?
It varies by cemetery and often by section within one cemetery. In the Edmonton region, 24" × 12" is the most common single size and 36" × 18" the most common companion, usually at 3" or 4" thick. Give us the cemetery and section and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
Is bronze better than granite for a flat marker?
Neither is better, and in most Edmonton cemeteries you can choose. Granite costs less and the lettering stays sharp indefinitely. Bronze costs more, patinas to a dark brown, and needs occasional cleaning to stay legible. Some memorial gardens allow bronze only, which settles the question for you.
