Terms & Conditions

The terms that apply to quotes, orders and memorials supplied by Headstones Edmonton.

Quotes

Written quotes are valid for sixty days. Prices quoted are in Canadian dollars and exclude GST unless stated otherwise. Cemetery permit fees and foundation charges are set by the cemetery, are shown separately, and are subject to change by the cemetery without notice to us.

Orders and deposits

An order is placed when you approve the design proof in writing and pay the deposit. A minimum fifty per cent deposit is required with the order, and any outstanding balance must be paid within thirty days of completion of the memorial. On-site engraving and restoration work is payable on completion.

Design proofs and your approval

We prepare a scaled design proof for every memorial and we do not begin fabrication until you approve it. Your approval of the proof is your confirmation that every name, date, word and symbol on it is correct. Granite cannot be un-cut. Errors identified after approval that appear on the approved proof are corrected at your cost, and in most cases require a new stone. Please read the proof aloud, and have a second person read it.

Lettering and design

Any amount of lettering on the front of the memorial is included in our list price, as long as it fits. Lettering may be added to the back for an additional charge. Lettering in any language is included at no additional cost. Standard designs are included, as are designs matched from an existing memorial, provided that design is not protected by another manufacturer's copyright.

A family name may be added to the back of any upright or pillow memorial that has a polished back surface, for $150. It is inscribed by the same engraving method as the front unless the order states otherwise.

Two hours of custom artwork are included in our price. Time beyond two hours is charged at $150 per hour.

Measurements

All monument measurements are given in feet and inches, in this order: width (left to right), then thickness (front to back), then height (top to bottom).

Installation and cemetery fees

Our list prices do not include installation or cemetery fees. Installation is quoted separately once we know the cemetery, the section and the memorial. Cemetery permit and foundation charges are set and billed by the cemetery.

Cemetery rules

Every cemetery sets its own regulations for memorial size, thickness, material, finish and placement. We confirm those regulations before quoting and we obtain the permit where the cemetery requires one. Where you instruct us to proceed against a cemetery's stated regulations, we will decline, or will proceed only on your written acknowledgement that the memorial may be refused and that no refund will apply.

Lead times

Estimated lead times are given in good faith and are not guarantees. Granite supply, weather, frozen ground and cemetery scheduling all affect delivery. Edmonton ground is generally unworkable from late October to April, and memorials completed during that period are stored at no charge and set when conditions allow.

Delivery and installation

Delivery and installation are quoted separately from the memorial and are not included in the list price. Access must be reasonable for our equipment; where a cemetery restricts vehicle access or requires specialist lifting, additional costs may apply and will be quoted before the work is done.

Warranty

We warrant our granite memorials against defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the memorial, to the original purchaser. The warranty covers cracking, splitting or failure of the granite and failure of the lettering under normal conditions. It does not cover vandalism, theft, ground settlement, damage caused by cemetery equipment or third parties, natural colour variation in stone, or normal weathering and patina. Bronze develops a patina by design and this is not a defect.

Cancellation

An order may be cancelled at no cost before the proof is approved. After proof approval, the deposit is non-refundable, as fabrication and granite ordering begin at that point.

Liability

Our liability in connection with any memorial is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Alberta law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta.
